Abstract
Paul Query graduated from DePauw in 1983 and studied at the Iowa Writers' Workshop where he studied under the great American poet, James Galvin. While at Iowa, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He finished a manuscript called “The Jackhammer Tree” and died in November of 1987. The book was never published. In 2004 Midwestern Review editor Evan Nagle discovered Query’s work and published some of it in the MWR that fall. Soon after, the English Department created a prize in Paul Query’s memory with the intention that our best senior poets be published under his name in the MWR. This spring, we celebrate two members of the class of 2016 whose work won this year’s Paul Query Prize.
