Abstract
I’ve had the pleasure of watching Amanda Volel continue to develop as a poet in her senior year. In one poem she writes, “Poetry is a cathedral I find myself in.'" In one sense she worships in the cathedral of poetry, yet in. another, she tears that “cathedral” down. By the end of that poem, poetry is reduced to a “box that opens [her] chest.” Her work moves across the landscape of New York City picking up what she finds both literally and linguistically. As you read her work, allow yourself to live inside her poems, whether you’re in a vast cathedral in New York or inside a box near her ear.
