Nobody with a Good Script Needs to Be Justified

Abstract

An essay is presented that discusses television fiction writing from the perspective of the quality of the scripts and the cultural dynamics of writing for television. Of particular interest is the situational nature of many television programs and how authors deal with sensitive social issues. It is argued that writing for television is a negotiated activity in that scripts are written by a group of writers with the input of the show's network or television studio.
