Abstract
Putnam County Through the Lens is a photography-based, community art exhibit featured at the Putnam County Museum, which focuses on the images of seven dedicated residents of Putnam County, who were each loaned a digital camera and asked to photograph their lives, their homes, their community. I wished for each participant to present Putnam County as they see and live it. I hope that the photographers, the audience, and myself became or will become better acquainted with this community through the images, finding familiar faces and places, as well as discovering the unknown, perhaps intriguing the viewers to make them familiar. I believe that the active experience of viewing and discovering Putnam County will create a community amongst the participants, the viewers, and myself. As a way to continue the process of discovery and presentation, I heartily wish for the project to become an annual event in the county, continued by the Museum or another group, keeping its ideals of community alive.
