Abstract

For young adults, the concept of being financially stable is daunting and stressful, and most do not know what financial stability entails. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, financial well-being is defined as “a state of being wherein a person can fully meet current and ongoing financial obligations, can feel secure in their financial future, and is able to make choices that allow them to enjoy life.” Through playing AlgoLIFE, a text-based game that predicts financial stability based off of chosen responses, players will learn how to be financially stable. The score that the player receives upon the completion of the game is created by an algorithm trained with data from the National Financial Well-Being Survey, designed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The predicted score will allow users to examine the choices they make and potentially change those choices in real life in order to have a better life in the future.
