Abstract
Learning a language can often be a daunting task, especially when you have no prior language exposure. Having the ability to speak or communicate in more than one language has become increasingly important due to globalization. With German being one of the most important languages in Europe, it is a great time to use SpracheSpace to aid your learning of the German language. SpracheSpace is a local Java-based application that at its core is meant for flashcard-based learning of vocabulary as well as grammar exercises. Users will be prompted to select one of two options: Vocabulary or Grammar. If the user selects Vocabulary, they will then have the option to select groups of pre-made flashcards. Using a variation of the Leitner system, flashcards will be initially sorted into levels based on difficulty. If a user correctly answers a flashcard, the flashcard is moved up a level and as a result won’t appear as often. If a flashcard is answered incorrectly, it will be lowered by a level and as a result will appear more often. When a user selects Grammar, they will then have the option to select which Grammar exercises they would like to partake in. These exercises will include basic nouns and pronouns, verb tenses, word order, and various other aspects of German grammar.
