Course Description

This course is designed to introduce you to the basic principles, applications, and emphases of global health. You will use case studies and primary sources to examine global public health issues and interventions over time while gaining familiarity with the core disciplines of global health. You will have the opportunity to analyze disease burden across several sectors to examine factors affecting health.

Student Outcomes

  • Define global health and identify its unique contributions to the health of the public
  • Articulate key public health concepts and milestone cases and events in global health
  • Identify determinants that influence health on a global scale
  • Identify risk factors for conditions of importance to global health
  • Interpret health data in text, tables, and/or graphs
  • Describe the key actors and organizations in global health and the manner in which they cooperate to address critical global health issues.
  • Communicate global health information to different audiences
