  A Lunar Rhapsody

  Spring 2025
  Two refugees of a cosmic war, the last two of their kind – called Dimensionals -- have entered our dimension through a portal created by a lunar eclipse. As they try to hide from cosmic assassins, they observe, analyze, and try to make sense of the random people they find at a basketball court on a warm summer night in Brooklyn, as a lunar eclipse takes over the sky -- four teenagers, an older interracial couple, and three Latina millennials. By the author of Marisol and "The Motorcycle Diaries."

  A Servant of Two Masters

  Fall 2025
  In the tradition of commedia dell’arte, traveling acting troupes playing stock characters challenged social norms and politics in the guise of entertainment. In this classic comedy set in Venice, mayhem erupts when the clever—and perpetually hungry—servant Arlecchino concocts a wild plan to double his wages (and his meals) by serving two masters at once. Amid a tangle of lovers, misers, and schemers, mistaken identities, broken engagements, and drawn swords lead to an uproarious finale where all is finally set right.

  Communicating Doors

  Spring 2025
  Dominatrix Phoebe travels to a 5 star hotel to meet a client-- only to find that he is dying and he has called for her only to witness his secret confession-- of murder. He had allowed his long-time man servant Julian to murder his first and second wives for their money, and he knows that Julian will kill him rather than let him confess. When Julian learns that Phoebe has witnessed the confession, he attempts to murder her too, but Phoebe hides in a closet and discovers that it has a hidden door that is a portal through time. When Phoebe slips through that “communicating door,” she lands in the same hotel --but 20 years earlier-- and she meets the second wife, Ruella, on the evening that she is to be murdered. In a race against time, the two women use the communicating door to warn the first wife, Jessica---but Julian is stalking all of them—in every time period. Will the combined wits of these three women save all of their lives—in time? Described as a “comic thriller” Communicating Doors by Alan Aychbourn was awarded Britain’s “Best West End Play.”

  Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus (The Revenge of the Bat)

  Winter 2025
  To celebrate the 60th anniversary of DePauw Opera, the DePauw Institute of Music will present “waltz king” Johann Strauss’s humorous and tuneful operetta Die Fledermaus. In April of 1874, Strauss premiered this lighthearted operetta in Austria, originally setting it in the great city of its debut, Vienna. Often known by its translated English title The Bat (or The Revenge of The Bat), the work was first performed in New York City later in the same year of its European premier. Directed and produced by music faculty member Dr. Janani Sridhar, DePauw's production evokes echoes of the American premiere by setting the opera in New York City, giving the audience entryway into a laugh-filled tale of mistaken identity and misadventure. Further fun will be fueled each performance through appearances by special guests familiar to DePauw and Greencastle audiences.

  Spring Awakening

  The winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening explores the turbulent journey from adolescence to adulthood with raw honesty, passion, and unforgettable music. Set in a repressive 19th-century society, the musical follows a group of teenagers as they navigate self-discovery, sexuality, and the consequences of silence in a world that refuses to understand them. On opening night, join us in The Great Hall for a reception with the cast and crew following the performance. After the Sunday matinee, stay for a talkback with the cast and creative team as they reflect on the production’s themes and challenges.
