Richard A. Pegg, Ph.D., Curator of Asian Art for Chicago's MacLean Collection, examines the meaning of the term "Maximalism" as it relates to the contemporary Chinese art in the Mind Space exhibition. The MacLean Collection, housed in a private museum outside Chicago, focuses on the cultures of China, Korea and Southeast Asia.

Reach Rededication Ceremony

DePauw Nature Park

On Thursday, April 5 at 4 pm, we will rededicate Mark Warwick’s steel sculpture Reach. The event will begin at the sculpture’s new location near the walking path just east of the Prindle lower parking lot in the Nature Park. Refreshments and a bonfire at the Prindle Institute for Ethics will follow a brief dedication, along with music provided by the DePauw Percussion Ensemble. Reach was DePauw’s first outdoor public sculpture to be installed on campus. Inspired by the flatness of the Midwestern landscape and its many grain silos, Reach contrasts the curvilinear decorativeness of Warwick’s European homeland with the stark straight edges of America’s cityscapes. Generous support from Mr. William M. Horne '42 and Mrs. Alice (Hobart) Horne '45 made the 1997 acquisition possible.
Artist Talk and Gallery Reception Nancy Bowen: Begettings

Nancy Bowen utilizes imagery from Farmer's Almanacs, published between 1800 and 1867. In her drawings, she collages imagery and text from the Farmer's Almanacs with rubbings of early American tombstones and linear patterns suggestive of Eastern origins. Her sculpture urges the questions raised by the works on paper: what recommends itself as auspicious? What compels belief? What serves in our negotiations with fate?
