    Social Strategies: Redefining Social Realism

    November 15, 2003 - February 15, 2004
    Social Strategies: Redefining Social Realism introduces tendencies in contemporary art that redefine social realism and examines ways in which contemporary artist have used art as a platform to air their views, personal politics, and visionary alternatives. This renewed social praxis will be explored by works in a broad range of media form internationally renowned contemporary artists, including: Tracy Emin, Gilbert & George, Nan Goldin, Felix Gonzàlez-Torres, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Wolfgang Laib, Neo Rauch, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Sue Williams.

    Adams, Forsyth and Steele: Indiana Paintings from the Lilly Endowment Collection

    July 26 - October 12, 2003
    This exhibition highlights works by J. Ottis Adams, William Forsyth and T.C. Steele--the three most prominent members of the Hoosier Group, which also includes the Paris-trained artist Otto Stark and the self-taught painter Richard Gruelle. Adams, Forsyth and Steele features familiar Indiana landscapes rendered by these accomplished artists, including tranquil scenes from Brown County and Butler's Hill, as well as paintings representing the artist's travels outside of Indiana. This exhibition is supported by a grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc. and is organized by the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
