Course Description
In this course we will examine the human capacity for evil – its nature, causes, and resources to resist it. We’ll examine some forms of evil that are limited to a small minority of human beings, such as psychopathy, but we’ll also explore the capacity for evil that lies within each of us.

Student Outcomes
(1) Students will be able to identify some features of human nature that underlie our capacity for evil and describe empirical evidence for the existence of those features of human nature. (2) Students will be able to identify some features of human nature that can help us to overcome or resist our capacity for evil and describe empirical evidence for the existence of those features of human nature. (3) Students will be able to identify and assess evidence both for and against the propositions that (a) human beings are good by nature and (b) human beings are evil by nature.
