Course Description

This course focuses on the postmodern era of British literature, which unofficially begins with the mid-1960s, continues into the new wave era of the eighties and nineties, and ends with post-millennial and post-pandemic Britain in cultural crisis. Along the way, we'll look at fiction by such writers as Zadie Smith, Salman Rushdie, Martin Amis, Sally Rooney, Kazuo Ishiguro, Helen Oyeyemi, and Angela Carter--and drama by such playwrights as Martin McDonagh, Ayub Khan-Din, and Debbie Tucker-Green. It's a wild ride! This is an "S" course, so there will be a strong emphasis on student presentations.
