Course Description
Database and File Systems is an exciting area of Computer Science that supports modern commercial application development as well as being at the heart of the Data & Analytics industry. With the growing amount of data available, the importance and challenges of databases continue to expand. Businesses are becoming more and more "data-driven"; thus, understanding how data is collected, stored, and managed is essential. Students will learn the fundamental concepts underlying database systems & file systems. This course will provide a level of understanding of relational databases and manipulating data with an interactive query language (SQL)

Student Outcomes
1) Students will be able to understand the role of databases and file systems in both transactional and analytical data ecosystems. 2) Students will be able to demonstrate fundamental knowledge of database design and modeling, data modification, and manipulation in the context of relational databases. 3) Students will demonstrate a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts of SQL, including data types, queries, and basic database operations. 4) Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in creating queries involving multiple tables and joins to extract and analyze information. 5) Students will demonstrate knowledge of technology and its implications in society and be able to leverage technology, where appropriate, for creative activities or innovative solutions to problems.
