Course Description
HISP 232 is the second of the two-semester series of Intermediate Spanish at DePauw. The purpose of this class is to build and expand upon your preexisting knowledge of the Spanish language. Instead of pursuing this goal in a vacuum, we will explore the different ways of thinking about how Hispanic communities are represented in textbooks, media, and other sources. The typical language class will normally present the Hispanic world through the lens of beautiful places, celebrations, traditional foods, usually without context while using a separate grammar component. Taking an intersectional approach means making a deliberate attempt to examine how gender, class, race, ethnicity, age, ability, among other categories, are shaping the constructions of identities and cultural practices.
