Course Description
Viola applied lessons are designed to guide students in the development of their technical and musical skills. Students will be prepared to pursue a variety of career paths. Attention will be given to the steady improvement of instrument specific skills, musical understanding, artistic excellence, creativity, diversity of repertoire, historical and social context of studied works, and interdisciplinary connections. Students are expected to approach their lessons with dedication, willingness, and diligent preparation. Covered materials will include scales, etudes, technical exercises, solo repertoire, chamber music, and orchestral literature as appropriate.

Student Outcomes
1. Students will be able to accomplish steady improvement of instrument specific skills through consistent practice and self-evaluation. 2. Students will be able to expand their musical expression through the development of ease with their instrument, study of performance practice, understanding of the historical and social context of repertoire, score study, trial and error, and careful active listening. 3. Students will be able to apply the skills learned in their instrumental study to intellectual and leadership opportunities across disciplines.
