Course Description
Open to all DePauw students, Creative Conversations focuses on collaboration between different disciplines for the purpose of deeper community engagement. This course explores how combining their different areas of major interest can have synergistic effects and therefore greater impact. Together, the class will examine case studies of these performance practices and create strategies to implement these creative conversations into their own work. Students will create in groups to develop a final project to practice these strategies. Sample projects could include creating choreography for a traditional song, co-writing and recording a new piece of music to discuss local legislation, or designing a website to facilitate discussion between students across DePauw. Resources housed in the School of Music’s Electronic Experimentation Lab and DePauw’s Tenzer Center will be used to support this work. Final projects will be showcased in an end-of-semester celebration open to the public. Please note: this class is focused on collaborative work in a group setting. Many of the assignments are partner oriented and partner assignments will rotate throughout the semester.
