Course Description

In the education that all students receive at the DePauw School of Music, the following School of Music Learning Goals will be threaded through courses taken. Not all Learning Goals will be possible in every class, but students will ultimately benefit from total exposure to these goals in the variety of classes that are required in their curriculum: --Develop artistic excellence, creativity, and critical thinking skills as the foundation for all they do. --Engage audiences, with special attention to access, inclusivity and awareness. --Act as socially minded entrepreneurial musicians by inventing, developing and managing projects for community impact. --Recognize and champion diversity of all kinds and work ceaselessly to improve inclusivity in all that they do. --Leverage technology in the creation and dissemination of music.

Student Outcomes

All Learning Goals, Learning Objectives, and Learning Outcomes of the Large Instrumental Ensemble (MUS272A) are addressed through the independent lens of each ensemble director for University Band, University Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. All Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Harp, and Keyboard students in the School of Music and CLA Award recipients will be in the pool of eligible ensemble musicians, and will have the opportunity, through rotation, to study and perform repertoire for Band/Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra. Directors will provide specific schedules for the semester.
