Course Description
Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. This course will introduce you to the field of modern psychological science by exploring a variety of areas in which psychologists conduct research. We will cover topics including the biological basis of behavior, sensory and perceptual processes, learning and memory, cognition, development, psychological disorders, and social psychology. Beyond this, you will also learn about the scientific process and research methods in psychology and receive an introduction on how to read scientific articles to be critical consumers of science.

Student Outcomes
Identify the major subfields of psychology and respective research methodologies. Describe, understand, and think critically about key findings within and across major subfields of psychology. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic scientific method underlying psychological research and its subfields. Read and understand scientific articles, including graphical displays of data, preliminary understanding of statistical methods, and practical considerations of conducting research. Consider and think critically about scientific sources, methods, and findings. Be an informed consumer of psychological findings in media and everyday life. Recognize and appreciate how basic theory and experimental findings apply to everyday situations. Apply psychological terms and scientific methodology in completing a research paper following APA guidelines.
