Course Description
Students will acquire knowledge and skill in various approaches and methodologies for teaching general music at the elementary level (K-5). Through peer teaching and field experience, they will demonstrate their ability to teach music content appropriate to the elementary level based on K-12 national music standards. Simultaneously, they will demonstrate their understanding of writing thorough lesson plans that take into consideration individual learning styles, the school setting, diverse populations, use of technology, etc. Students will also refine their personal philosophy of music education based upon the experiences they have had thus far in their educational path.

Student Outcomes
By the end of this course, student will; Explore and evaluate pedagogical approaches appropriate for use in K-5th grade general music classrooms. Observe and assist in elementary general music settings. Plan and teach various musical concepts. Collect songs, rhymes, listening examples, and other resources suitable for use in an elementary music class. Identify and sequence appropriate teaching materials and strategies for various types of learners in the classroom. Demonstrate proficiency on the soprano recorder.
