Course Description

FREN 101 is an introduction to the language and cultures of the French-speaking world. It is designed for students who have had no more than two years of French in high school. If you are uncertain about your eligibility for this course, please let me know immediately so that we can make sure you are enrolled in a course for which you will receive credit. Successful completion of FREN 101 + 102 satisfies the language requirement for the Bachelor of Arts at DePauw.

Student Outcomes

What are the student outcomes for this course? Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to do the following : 1. Engage in simple oral and written exchanges in French in the present and past tense 2. Understand simple spoken French on a variety of topics including family, friendship, food, and university life 3. Identify and discuss some issues of interest in the francophone (French-speaking) world today (in French or in another language in which you have greater comfort) 4. Compare issues in the francophone world with issues in the U.S. and/or in other countries and regions in which you are familiar (in French or in another language)
