Course Description
We will investigate in depth how matter moves. You’ve already had an introduction to the main ideas in Phys 120, but in this course we’ll go much, much further putting you on a first-name basis with motion and giving you an opportunity to exercise your higher math skills. We’ll cover Newton’s Laws, several conservation laws and develop two very powerful alternatives to Newtonian mechanics which are at the same time equivalent.

Student Outcomes
Students will be able to: 1. think like a physicist: they will have knowledge of multiple problem-solving strategies and the ability to break complex problems into smaller parts that can be solved with those strategies. 2. apply a solid conceptual and mathematical foundation in a core subject area of physics. 3. demonstrate the ability to provide thorough written explanations along with the mathematics of physics problem solutions.
