Abstract
The STEM Guide program is part of the Growing Inclusive Excellence in STEM initiative funded by the Howard Highes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence Grant. In this program, students who have been successful in a core science or math class serve as mentors, role models and RAs to students in a subsequent section of the course. The Guides (ideally PEERs: Persons Excluded because of their Ethnicity or Race) take a for-credit practicum on inclusive peer instriction practices, attend the science or math course at least once a week to help facilitate course content and hold "office hours" outside of class to serve as an additional resource to students. In this talk, we will share student perspectives and data from STEM Guides, students, and faculty examining the first three years of this PEER leadership program at DePauw.
