Abstract
Faculty create a wide range of digital materials – articles, syllabi, datasets, lecture media, public scholarship and creative work – but questions about copyright, licensing and “where this work belongs” often create barriers to sharing. This Open Education Week workshop introduces digital literacy concepts through the lens of open licenses and publishing pathways. Participants will explore how Creative Commons licenses work, how to decide what level of openness is appropriate for different kinds of work and where faculty can publish or share materials – from journals and institutional repositories to open platforms and community-aligned publishing models. Designed for a liberal arts context, the session emphasizes faculty agency, ethical knowledge sharing and practical decision-making that supports teaching, scholarship and public impact.
