  • Queer Crip Craft Library Nap-In by Peeler Galleries

    Queer Crip Craft Library Nap-In

    Peeler Galleries
    November 15, 4:15-4:45 pm

Join us in the gallery for a nap-in. A crip spin on the civil disobedience tactic, sit-in, made famous during the civil rights movement, the nap-in is an anti-capitalist crip occupation of the gallery space. The nap-in calls on museums, galleries, and arts institutions everywhere to provide more places for rest in their spaces and make accessibility a priority, not an after-thought. Pushing back against capitalism, a system with which the art world is inextricably tied and that views our bodies as machines for production and labor, the nap-in asks you to occupy the gallery with your resting body, to revel in rest as an act of resistance. Poofs, blankets, and sleepy snacks will be provided. Feel free to wear comfy clothes, bring a pillow, and pack headphones if you'd like to listen to music or a guided meditation, or watch a tv show during the communal nap. The venue is wheelchair accessible and there will be a few furniture options for resting. All are welcome.

Peeler Art Center, Visual Arts GalleryCome to Peeler to watch a performance of “The Spoon Factory” by Professor Sarah Cowan’s Histories of Performance Art class and stay for a long table discussion hosted by the artist, Betsy Redelman Díaz, on the queer crip craft library exhibition as it relates to disability, queerness, intersectionality, and craft more broadly. A democratic spin on a panel discussion, the long table is an experimental public forum that co-opts the atmosphere of a dinner party to facilitate casual and intimate conversation on complex topics, blurring the line between audience and performer. This is a participatory, discussion-based event and we look forward to hearing your experiences, questions and impressions. Accessibility: ASL interpretation will be provided for this event. Touch tour and braille artwork labels included throughout the exhibition The venue is wheelchair accessible, and seating will be available for all attendees.
