Course Description
This course in keyboard musicianship is the first semester of a four-semester class piano sequence. The course focuses on the development of basic skill sets required in the areas of keyboard techniques, music reading, improvisation, elementary piano solo and accompanying repertoire, and ensemble playing. The course is intended to reinforce students’ understanding of both written and aural theoretical concepts.

Student Outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to perform the following tasks: ● Be able to recognize different types of keyboard instruments and how they work ● Play piano with proper piano posture and hand position ● Play elementary piano solo and ensemble repertoire as well as simple accompaniment ● Sight-read elementary piano music ● Play major pentachords and triads ● Play major white keys scales one-octave hands together
