Course Description

This advanced independent studio class will assist in the development of experimental methodologies for time-based production in video or animation. Through an overview of the historical and theoretical background of this time-based disciplines alongside prompts, exercises and independently-led studio reseach, the student will cultivate skills in visual problem-solving for the production of a animation and/or video piece from start to finish.

Student Outcomes

On completion of this course, the students will be able to acquire an understanding of and significant practice in the following areas:

  • Processes of production -from start to finish- of time-based projects Engaging critically, creatively and thoughtfully with new media, interfaces and emerging technologies
  • Concepts, contexts, precedents, theories and practitioners in the present-day landscape of New Media, with a focus on contemporary art
  • Cultivate critical inquiry and visual/digital literacy in the expansive ecosystem of contemporary image culture.
  • Embracing experimentation and risk as part of the making process and as a pathway to discover personal visual language.
