Course Description

The capstone course in the major and a study experience that extends and advances the ideas that define the critical educator, transformative intellectual, and public pedagogue. Projects build upon a common set of core readings and are guided by the instructor and peer community. This course thus involves the development and completion of a significant and creative intervention in the field of education studies that is shared beyond the classroom, in this case with, at least, the rest of the department and interested members of the DPU community.

Student Outcomes

The primary objective of this course is to engage in educational research, writing, and presentation that generate “novel” contributions to educational discourse to be shared with the DPU community and that reflects student understanding of the departments three pillars: critical educator, transformative intellectual, and public pedagogue. This means that by the end of this course you should be able to: A. Critically engage with and assess, in writing and discussion, relevant educational literature and research (critical educator) B. Complete a literature review, research proposal, and presentation on a relevant, meaningful educational issue (transformative intellectual, public pedagogue) C. Support peers in the development and implementation of their research proposals and participate in the creation of a supportive yet critical research environment (critical educator, public pedagogue)
