Topics covered in this course include: • Basic knowledge about the piano • Keyboard topography • Music notation (reading and writing) • Pitch and Rhythm • Harmonization • Technique • Musicianship • Developing listening skills • Getting to know yourself • Training the mind • Discipline and perseverance

Student Outcomes

All students in this course WILL learn how to read music and play the piano IF they come to class with open minds, follow instructions systematically, be patient, do things step by step, practice methodically, persevere and not be discouraged. You will succeed if you treat piano playing as a science and as a sport. You have to practice mindfully and consistently.
