Course Description
This course is designed to nurture the skills of preservice music educators, focusing on conducting and arranging for instrumental and choral ensembles typically found in middle and high school settings. For juniors, this course is an opportunity to bring your pedagogical knowledge into practice. You will engage in sequencing lesson materials, selecting and arranging suitable methods and literature, mastering rehearsal techniques, and honing your personal teaching style to communicate effectively with your students. First-year and Sophomore students will immerse themselves in a vibrant ensemble experience, exploring a variety of instruments and vocal techniques, some of which may be new to you. This hands-on experience is complemented by peer teaching and conducting exercises, where you'll give and receive constructive feedback, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

Student Outcomes
University music education students completing this course will be able to: 1. Apply instructional strategies and rehearsal techniques suitable for various ensembles. 2. Select and familiarize themselves with repertoire appropriate for secondary school ensembles. 3. Effectively manage time during the teaching and leading of lessons and rehearsals. 4. Conduct "on the spot" assessments and provide immediate instructional feedback during rehearsals. 5. Develop part-reading and accompanying skills. 6. Achieve proficiency on secondary instruments. 7. Self-assess their teaching performance and identify areas for improvement. 8. Provide constructive feedback on their peers’ teaching methods and approaches.
