Course Description
WGSS 140 is a prerequisite for the major and minor in WGSS, as well as a survey course that introduces students to the interdisciplinary nature and scope of the field. Our aim is to begin to understand human behavior through a focus on how gender and sexuality shape cultures and the institutions that structure them in the U.S. Students will explore the study of women, gender, sexuality, and feminism by examining the intersections of race, class, and disability with gender and sexuality across cultural and disciplinary contexts. Topics will include feminism and women’s movements; gender socialization; the body; gendered violence; work and poverty; and resistance and activism.
