Course Description
This course will investigate DNA, RNA and protein in the context of molecular processes regulating gene expression and cell function. Specifically, we will learn about DNA sequencing and manipulation, control of transcription and translation in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and the protein life cycle. Applications of molecular technologies will be explored in the laboratory. You will also practice reading and analyzing primary literature in class and independently.

Student Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course, you should be comfortable with the following: 1. Describe the regulatory processes that govern the flow of information within a cell from DNA → RNA → Protein. 2. Critically read and evaluate scientific literature related to molecular biology concepts. 3. Be familiar with laboratory procedures in molecular biology, and be able to present, analyze and evaluate data from laboratory experiments. 4. Explain molecular technologies used in research settings and their applications in research and medicine.
