Volume 17, Issue 2 (2004) shift, shift
From the Editors
Your search is over. The meaning of life is not what you thought it was. You kept giving God your garbled plea, when all along the answers were right in front of you. Everything you need to know is in your sleep-walk- ing sister. It's in the slick frog you squeezed too tightly. A penny with your birth year. Your great-grandparents' love letters and your grandma's collec- tion of margarine containers. Want to see things differently? Peer into your mother's bedroon after you've made a joke at her expense and suffer the independence of her breath. The mystery is there, where your father used to lie. In the cool clefts of sheets beneath her quiet body. Look at her. Turn your head, step to the side. Just look at her spotting skin. And, if you still haven't found what you're looking for: shift, shift.Art
