Course Description

In this course, students will synthesize material from previous museum studies courses, internships, and allied coursework. Students will first examine recent exhibitions and publications on exhibition design and then, will curate a professional exhibition, drawing from the DePauw University permanent art collection. Students will design the exhibition thesis and supporting subthemes, synthesize subject material, consider object relationships & layout, plan & execute outreach & educational experiences, and (if time allows,) help in the installation.

Student Outcomes

Students will be able to

  • describe the current critical appraisals and new museology approaches to exhibition and experience design
  • create an exhibition plan with thesis & subthemes, as well as mount the exhibition, if time allows
  • demonstrate improved critical thinking, close reading, visual analysis, research, and writing skills
