Course Description
In this course, we will learn about the fundamental principles of genetics, including the structure and function of genes, the relationship between genotype and phenotype, and patterns of inheritance in families and populations. We will discuss some of the fundamental experiments in the discipline as well as current areas of research and application. There will be an emphasis on understanding how genetic analyses are performed and analyzing and interpreting the results of experiments.

Student Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Discuss the use of genetics as a means of understanding the relationships between genotype and phenotype, in both model organisms and humans.
2. Explain and analyze patterns and mechanisms of inheritance in individuals and populations.
3. Critically analyze and apply the major methods and techniques of research in the field of genetics, including how to test specific questions, analyze the data, and interpret the results.
