Course Description

This course is an exploration of the nature and methods of persuasive communication, including motivational theories, attention, logical argument, audience analysis and the role of personality, integrated with practice in public speaking.

Student Outcomes

  • Increased understanding of persuasion, rhetoric, & argumentation in daily life and public discourse.
  • Increased knowledge in the form and content of contemporary controversy
  • Increased ability to construct and to deconstruct the logic of pubic arguments
  • Increased sensitivity to the role of audience in persuasive success
  • Increased skill at developing and presenting oral and written communicative messages
  • Increased Reflection on the role of ideology, ethics & media in persuasive messages.
