Course Description
This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of statistics and their application to economics, finance and business. Students will be introduced to both descriptive and inferential statistics and the use of computer software to perform basic statistical analysis. The course material covers descriptive data analysis, random variables, sampling, confidence interval estimation, hypotheses testing and regression analysis.

Student Outcomes
1. Statistical Analysis skills: Understand how to use descriptive statistics and develop skills in conducting inferential statistical analysis using appropriate data and statistical tools. Understand the strengths and limitations of statistical analysis. 2. Technological skills: Be able to use computer software (i.e., Excel) to perform statistical analysis. 3. Communication skills: Learn where to find reliable information and express arguments with the use of statistical support. Develop skills in conducting economic research using statistical analysis and learn how to write an empirical research paper in economics. 4. Critical Thinking skills: Develop your ability to critically understand and appraise arguments and to think critically about quantitative information.
