Course Description

Le football, for Djiboutian writer Abdourahman A. Waberi, is both a langage universel and a prétexte littéraire. We’ll consider soccer as a point of entry for our study of both language and literature this semester, as we read from Waberi’s soccer-inspired collection Enfants de la balle, including stories by writers from Djibouti, Congo, Algeria, Mauritius, Togo, and Morocco. We’ll also review many of the basic grammatical structures of the French language. Allez, c’est parti!
