Course Description
In this course, you will learn about landscape photography in the context of climate change. Students will be expected to create landscape photographs based on what they learn in the class, their own research and creative exploration. Students will also need to step outside their comfort zone and explore environments that might be new to them. We will critique the ideas of romantic and idealized landscape photographs and consider new ways of developing ideas visually about the landscape. Students should expect to work outside in all types of weather. We may also take field trips to various locations in Putnam County. We will view many documentaries about photographers, climate change and the environment to guide our conversations and inspire our photographic work. You will be expected to view films outside of class and respond to what you have seen. We will discuss readings and films during class time and this will constitute your participation grade. Students should expect to spend about 5-8 hours a week outside of class time photographing.
